    NOW ACCEPTING NONPROFIT SUBMISSIONS FOR KIRKWOOD WINE STROLL GRANTS!

    Our annual fundraising event, Kirkwood Wine Stroll, is Friday September 18, 2020 from 7-10PM in downtown Kirkwood. The goal of the event is to raise positive awareness and build a stronger business network within Kirkwood and surrounding communities. From event profits, KBOA funds the annual budget,  donates to local non profit organizations and implements beautification and marketing projects within the business districts of Kirkwood.  

    The Kirkwood Business Owners' Association is seeking submissions from non-profit organizations and civic organizations that need funding for specific projects in 2021.  KBOA has awarded $15,000 to 14 nonprofits since 2016.


    TERMS:
    + Must be a 501 (c) 3  designation with the IRS.

    + The non profit location of business must be within the NPU-O planning unit of the City of Atlanta which includes Kirkwood, East Lake, Edgewood and East Lake Commons. 

    + All awarded organizations are required to have a presence at the 15th Annual Wine Stroll, assist with volunteer recruitment and marketing of the event.

    • What are your ideas? Social media class for business owners, free consultation for the winner in the seminar, share consulting in the food industry (practice safe food prep), legal business class: incorporating, business planning, structuring your business, seminar on healthcare for small businesses - if we can get healthcare through KBOA, benefits for small businesses, have something on grants - investigate all the different grants that are available in GA, 

    • Anyone opposed about the microgrant for StartMe? NO

    • Add a mindset/business coaching

    • Create a voting/priority for seminars

    The new KBOA board of directors were proud to present our 2019 Kirkwood Nonprofit Awards at our annual KBOA Holiday Party! The $5000 donatioon is from 2019's Kirkwood Wine Stroll proceeds. Since 2016, KBOA has given back $15,000 to local nonprofits serving East Lake, Kirkwood and Edgewood communities for 2020 projects.

    2020 Applications open on Monday February 3, 2020.

    Atlanta Clay Works: $1000

    • Workshops and Training for Refugees.  Art Project Volunteers for Foster Care 

    Neighbor in Need, East Lake : $1000

    • Assisting low income elderly within East Lake, Kirkwood and Edgewood communities to make emergency home repairs. 

    Kirkwood Cares: $1000

    • To provide critical repairs to the homes of low income residents in Kirkwood.

    Veterans Empowerment Organization (VEO): $1000

    • Providing immediate short-term housing for homeless veterans with wrap-around services to transition them to self-sufficiency.

    Toomer Parent Teacher Association (PTA): $1000

    • Toomer Parent Rides will start 2019-2020 school year and will include money towards shuttles for events, UberX and Lyft credits for parents, and establishing a volunteer parent ride-sharing service. This project will serve an estimated 200 parents to ensure that they can get a ride to school events, conferences, or to pick up their child when he or she is sick.

    2019 YEAR IN REVIEW + 2020 LOOK AHEAD

    Thank you to all the members, volunteers and sponsors who make KBOA a fun, successful business association! 


    Thank you to KUCC for hosting our meetings from January- August.  We’ve returned to the newly renovated Kirkwood Library for our general  meetings on the 3rd Tuesday of the month @ 11am.


    MEMBERSHIP:

    • We reached 96 members strong in 2019.  70 in 2018. Wow, that's 26 new members. Only 2% of members do not renew.  We had only 47 members this time in 2017...we’ve doubled our members in 2 years!

    NEW BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

    • 12 dedicated business owners volunteer their time and expertise to KBOA. They keep an eye out for what's important to business owners in Kirkwood and implement on projects that will make a positive impact on the Kirkwood community.  MEET THE NEW 2020 BOARD

      • New positions for 2020 include Film Liaison and NPU-O Rep. 

      • 5 new board members for 2020 with 7 returning! 

    IMPROVEMENTS

    • Installed a new Welcome to Kirkwood sign, solar lighting and landscaping downtown. Thanks to KNO for working with us after a car crashed into our old sign.  How do you like the new sign? 

    • Beautified the downtown planters each season with sponsorship from 8 KBOA members. 

    • Donated $1500 to Bessie Branham Park to restore the granite entrance.

    MEMBER BENEFITS

    • Launched a monthly business networking coffee on the 1st Tuesday of the month from 9:30-10:30am at My Coffee Shop. All new, existing and potential KBOA members are invited to join our board to talk about successes, challenges and share resources! Coffee is on us!

    • Supported over 30 KBOA members by purchasing board lunches, snacks for general meetings, 2019 Holiday Party catered buffet, printing and services in 2019.

    • Launched the new KirkwoodWineStroll.com. 

    • Sold 1600 tickets with 100 at the door sold in half an hour. We estimate about 3000 people attended to enjoy the food and music.

    • 45 wine pouring stations

    • 9 food bite stations

    • 65 volunteers

    • 3 stages and 2 DJs...lots of dancing

    • 16 cash and in-kind sponsors totaling $11,750.00.  6 new sponsors! 

    • $37,000 in profit
